At UpROAR Leadership Academy (ULA) we focus on transformative learning experiences that ignite academic passions, build character, foster leadership skills and inform educational excellence. Our ‘Teach like a Champion’ model enables us to be in high touch as an educational team -- as a partnership of educators, students and parents. That means we are in high touch with our families -- including weekly progress reports, multiple assessments and parent-teacher conferences scheduled every three months.
Guiding & Supporting Our Students
As a 5-12th grade public charter school, we focus on all the ways we can enable powerful student learning. Our aim is to provide our ULA youth with the guidance and support they need to be successful in every aspect of modern life. To do this we deeply attune to the holistic needs of our students. We assess our students more often than other public middle and high schools because we want to ensure learning for every individual. Assessments also enable us to fine tune our teaching methods. Here’s why assessments matter so much at ULA:
In general, assessments matter because they inform us what students are and are not learning. Our transformative learning approach means we constantly address what is and isn’t working; it’s in our school culture as teachers and instructors to adapt for what works best for every student we serve. Assessments enable us to improve instruction and bolster the academic performance of every ULA student. By investing time and energy in multiple assessments every year, we make changes to our instruction, student support, curriculum, and how we learn together in our classrooms each day.
Motivating Students Every Chance We Get!
Our assessments help motivate our middle and high school students. Assessments are a key component of academic growth because they help students identify what they are learning. When our ULA students in grades 5-12 are able to see how they are doing in a class, they can recognize whether or not they understand the class material.
Assessments are important for us, as teachers because they energize our work. Assessments of ULA students provide information that our teaching team can use to improve efforts to help students. It is our way of engaging how our students learn in real world situations.
Structured & Joyful Learning Environment
At ULA, we enthusiastically develop the leaders of tomorrow within our structured school environment. We focus on character development, high academic standards and post-secondary readiness. We teach the importance of sitting up straight and looking others in the eyes -- alongside our daily affirmations reminding every student how special, valued and important they are.
